In 2018 Zach completed his final year of a combined Mining Engineering and Finance degree at the University of New South Wales in addition to working as a part-time mining engineering graduate at Yancoal’s Mount Thorley Warkworth.
During his undergraduate studies, Zach had several internships involved with the minerals industry, working for companies such as WoodMackenzie, Rio Tinto and BHP. In addition, Zach has been heavily involved in UNSW’s Philip Baxter residential college, where he held key leadership positions and hopes he can continue to develop and refine his leadership skills as a mining professional.
Zach aspires to work at a corporate level for a global mining leader, to contribute to the development and application of innovative techniques and technologies to ensure the sustainability of mining during and post mine operation.
The AusIMM EEF Scholarship, in particular the sponsored field trip, enabled Zach to gain greater appreciation for the diversity of problems and their subsequent solutions across mining operations. He was simultaneously able to begin developing professional networks to learn from and contribute to.
