Vivienne graduated with an MSc (Hons) in geology from the University of Auckland. She has over 40 years’ experience in the New Zealand mining industry. For most of this time, she has specialised in tenement consulting – obtaining prospecting, exploration and mining permits for a wide range of commodities under the Crown Minerals Act 1991.
Vivienne worked for six years at AHI Minerals Ltd, then for four-and-a-half years within the Mines Division, New Zealand Ministry of Energy as Senior Minerals Geologist, then spent four years as Senior Geologist for BHP Gold Mines based in Auckland. When BHP was acquired by Macraes Mining in 1990, Vivienne set up her own consultancy business working initially out of Simpson Grierson’s law office before establishing her own office in Devonport, Auckland.
Vivienne has been a longstanding member of the AusIMM New Zealand Branch, including being a regular member of the Committee, and she is currently serving as its Honorary Secretary. She was Branch Chair from 1997-1999 and has been a trustee of the New Zealand Branch Education Endowment Trust since its inception in the mid-1990s. Vivienne has been awarded the Beryl Jacka Award and the AusIMM New Zealand Lloyd Jones Award. She was a Councillor of the AusIMM from 1998-2000 and an AusIMM Board Member from 2000-2003. Vivienne is convenor of the NZ Branch 2018 conference to be held in Tauranga in September 2018.
