Lynn Olssen

Lynn is General Manager – Resource Knowledge & Definition for Rio Tinto; leading a global team who provide orebody knowledge expertise across Rio Tinto. Her background is in geology and she has more than 24 years’ experience in the mining industry.

Lynn actively advocates for inclusion both within Rio Tinto and across the resources sector. She is the immediate past Chair of the national AusIMM WIMnet committee and sits on both the state Women in Mining Western Australia (WIMWA) summit committee and WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy Gender Diversity Reference Group committee. She is also the WIMnet and Rio Tinto representative on the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) Gender Diversity Working Group. Lynn was involved as a committee member for the 2017 International Mine Geology Conference and the 2016 Open Pit Operators Conference.

Lynn has spent much of her career training and mentoring young mining professionals. She has been involved as a formal mentor in the WIMWA mentoring program since it commenced in 2012. She was awarded a scholarship to attend the 12-month Women in Leadership Advanced Leadership Program in 2013 and is also a recipient of the 2014 MCA Women in Mining Scholarship for the AICD Company Director’s Course.

Lynn has two daughters and has spent several years on the school board as secretary and chair.
