Matthew is a partner of Hall & Wilcox’s corporate and commercial group and is based in its Newcastle office. Matthew was previously the managing partner of Harris Wheeler Lawyers until that firm successfully merged with Hall & Wilcox on 1 July 2017.
Matthew has provided advice to many of the Hunter’s major institutions and companies including Port Stephens Council, the McCloy group of companies, the Marheine Group of companies, Hunter Development Corporation, Newcastle Airport Pty Limited, Hunter TAFE and RPC Technologies.

Matthew’s specialist knowledge covers legal risk management and the allocation of risk in commercial contracts, contract drafting and negotiation, procurement, contract tendering and contract administration, corporate governance and probity, trade practices and competition law, the protection and commercialisation of inventions and other intellectual property, technology related contracts and joint ventures.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and has published numerous articles on topics associated with commercial and business law. In recognition of his experience and expertise, Matthew was appointed the inaugural clinical lecturer in commercial law at the University of Newcastle. Matthew is also a notary and regularly assists clients with authenticating documents for use in overseas jurisdictions. Matthew is a member of the Newcastle Business Club and a past president, a member of the Newcastle Club and a current committee member and actively involved in the Newcastle and Hunter business communities.
