BHP Olympic Dam

Amanda Weir is the Head of Geoscience and Resource Engineering at BHP’s Olympic Dam asset in South Australia and is a key member of the asset leadership team. Olympic Dam is one of Australia’s largest underground mines and a globally significant copper producer.

Amanda has 20 years of mining industry experience spanning operations, projects and business strategy roles both nationally and internationally. Following early career experience with Mt Isa Mines, Amanda worked at several Australian underground mines before joining BHP’s Coal business in 2010. From there, she moved to BHP’s Diamonds business in Canada and ultimately led the Potash Strategy, Development and Planning team before returning to Australia in 2017.

Amanda is passionate about developing aspiring engineers and scientists, the future leaders of our industry.

Amanda graduated from the University of South Australia with a BEng (Hons) in Mining and a BAppSc in Applied Geology. She also holds a Master of Engineering in Mine Management from the University of New South Wales.
