AusIMM launches Thought Leadership Series to commemorate 125th anniversary
The AusIMM successfully launched the Thought Leadership Event Series to mark 125 years of the Institute on Friday 20 April in Adelaide.
The evening launch brought together a panel representing the intellectual diversity of the resources sector to discuss the immense opportunities available to resources professionals as the industry moves into the future.
With the launch in Adelaide, the series will travel across Australia and New Zealand, featuring over 50 panellists across 13 capital city and regional locations. Supported by signature partners Monash University, PwC, Qantas and Rio Tinto and networking partner FLSmidth, the theme of each event is ‘How will professionals shape the future of the resources sector?’
AusIMM President Colin Moorhead thanked the expert panellists for their support at the launch event in Adelaide which included Amanda Weir (BHP), Andrew Cole (OZ Minerals), Gerard Rheinberger (Rio Tinto), Prof John Ralston (University of South Australia) and Mark Thomson (PwC).
“Its an immense privilege for both the Institute and our professionals to have such a strong endorsement from industry leaders throughout this anniversary series,” Mr Moorhead said.
“Our Adelaide event sold out, with more than 150 people in attendance. This event was the beginning of a fantastic series that will showcase AusIMM’s commitment to leadership and the future as well as our professionals and their central role in ensuring a prosperous resources industry, which underpins the economy of our region.”
Led by MC Angela Pippos, the panel of leaders at the Adelaide launch shared their insights on innovation and automation, workforce diversity, the role of technology and essential skills for future professionals.
“The sectors that have innovated the most, are the sectors that have empowered their people to innovate,” said panellist Andrew Cole of OZ Minerals.
“We have an opportunity to completely redefine mining.”
Mr Stephen Durkin, AusIMM CEO, said a hallmark of the series was its focus on the future.
“Each event will have a clear emphasis on addressing the capabilities, requirements and challenges of the professional workforce of the future,” Mr Durkin said.
“We are incredibly proud of the work our Thought Leadership Event Series will do to support and highlight the critical work undertaken by resources professionals across Australasia and indeed the world.”
