The AusIMM successfully launched the Thought Leadership Event Series to mark 125 years of the Institute on Friday 20 April in Adelaide.

The evening launch brought together a panel representing the intellectual diversity of the resources sector to discuss the immense opportunities available to resources professionals as the industry moves into the future.

With the launch in Adelaide, the series will travel across Australia and New Zealand, featuring over 50 panellists across 13 capital city and regional locations. Supported by signature partners Monash University, PwC, Qantas and Rio Tinto and networking partner FLSmidth, the theme of each event is ‘How will professionals shape the future of the resources sector?’

AusIMM President Colin Moorhead thanked the expert panellists for their support at the launch event in Adelaide which included Amanda Weir (BHP), Andrew Cole (OZ Minerals), Gerard Rheinberger (Rio Tinto), Prof John Ralston (University of South Australia) and Mark Thomson (PwC).

“Its an immense privilege for both the Institute and our professionals to have such a strong endorsement from industry leaders throughout this anniversary series,” Mr Moorhead said.

This event was the beginning of a fantastic series that will showcase AusIMM’s commitment to leadership and the future as well as our professionals and their central role in ensuring a prosperous resources industry, which underpins the economy of our region.”

Led by MC Angela Pippos, the panel of leaders at the Adelaide launch shared their insights on innovation and automation, workforce diversity, the role of technology and essential skills for future professionals.

“We have an opportunity to completely redefine mining.”
